How the Tech Shed Got Its Start
Hi, I’m Robert. The Tech Shed is my way of helping take the stress out of technology while doing something good for the planet.
I’ve worked with technology for over 20 years. During that time, I’ve seen a lot of good gear — like computers, phones, printers, monitors, even security systems — get tossed out long before their time. Sometimes they’re just dusty or a little slow. Other times, folks upgrade and don’t know what to do with the old stuff. I started The Tech Shed to change that.
I help people in the Cowichan Valley find new homes for their used electronics. My services include cleaning them up, selling them for parts, or recycling them properly. E-waste is a big issue. In 2022, the world threw away over 62 million tonnes of electronic waste. And, only a small portion of that was recycled properly (source: Global E-waste Monitor 2024). Every little bit we keep out of the landfill helps.
But it’s not just about the environment. I’ve also seen how confusing tech can be for people, especially seniors or folks who just want their phone or printer to work . Worse, I’ve seen people get scammed or overcharged when all they needed was a bit of patient, friendly help. That’s where I come in.
Whether you’ve got a box of old cables or need a hand setting up your new laptop, I’m here to make tech feel simple and stress-free. The Tech Shed is built on honesty, helpfulness, and a commitment to keeping our community connected and a little greener, too.
Thanks for stopping by,
Robert
